Nancalobasaan

HISTORICAL PROFILE

  A. History

Nancalobasaan is a Pangasinan word which means in Ilocano
dialect "Nangcarabasaan" fot it was the first crop planted in the
place. Because it is located at the intersection of Binalonan,
Asingan and Urdaneta, it was also times called, "Nagsangaan". It
was founded some years after founding of Urdaneta in 1858. The
first settlers in the place are Viloria, Valdez, Marcos, Patacsil,
Sabado,and Separion.

This is the barrio where the Tanggal Americano was
constructed, a dam that irrigates almost all the lands of Urdaneta.
The Dam which was formerly called "Tanggal Mitura" was first
constructed by the people of Mangaldan during the Spanish regime,
the barrio being part of Mangaldan, but during the Fil-American war
a certain American army captain, realizing the importance of this
natural water source, improved it.

From that time on, it was Tanggal Americano. This Dam was
very improved during the time of the Administration of Manuel Sison
as Mayor of Urdaneta which improvement was financed by the pork
barrel funds of Rep. Amadeo J. Perez. This water resource enables
the farmers of Urdaneta to plant rice twice a year. This barrio is
rich rice, corn, root crops, coconut, bamboo and other vegetables.

The chief farm crop is for which the farmers realize big
profit every year. The people raise pigs, poultry and fruit trees
in their orchards while other busy themselves in making slippers
and travelling bag out of grass called barac-ac.
